A Vacation To Doha, Qatar

After a short, bumpy 45 minute plane ride from Kuwait this morning, we landed in Doha, Qatar.  This will be a short, four day vacation over a school break.  A short but well deserved escape from the hustle and bustle of Kuwait City.

Nothing moves quickly in the Middle East, as we’ve discovered.  The immigration queue at Doha airport was unbelievably long.  Wait time was @1 hour.  Thankfully, we were greeted by hotel staff just after exiting customs and promptly checked in, right then and there.  Then, placed in a taxi and whisked away to our hotel. All in under fifteen minutes!

A few days prior to our arrival, my wife complained about the hotel’s infrequent complimentary shuttle service to/from airport.  I’m certain her complaining caused them to “meet and greet” us the minute we exited customs.  They actually walked right up to us and said, “Good afternoon, you must be Mr.  & Mrs.....”

It’s a five-star hotel, so you’d expect them to make it right if they screw it up.  And they did by gaving us free Wi-Fi, too!

Tomorrow I’ll meet an Uncle from my mother’s side of the family who, I don’t recall ever knowing at all.   Honestly, if he knocked on our hotel door right this second, I wouldn’t recognize him.

Okay, we’re off to explore Doha, Qatar, the richest country in the world (according to Forbes magazine).
