Killing
time, that’s what we’re doing.
The
expat mass exodus from Kuwait has long since taken place. We’re probably one of
last hold outs. Nearly all of Christopher’s
friends, and soon-to-be new classmates, have all made a mad rush to the airport
and have flown off to more hospitably places.
We three however, will be jetting off to America the Beautiful in a few
days time.
Yes,
in five (5) days, we’ll board a British Airways Boeing 777, destined for
London’s Heathrow airport. After a quick
two hour layover here ,where I plan to feast on copious amounts of pork, we
then jump on another Boeing 777, also a BA flight, and fly into little
Havana—Miami International.
After
spending three and a half hours here we’re on an AA flight to Disney World International
(Orlando). Assuming all goes according
to plan with the rental car company, we should arrive at our rental home by
1-:130am Sunday morning, some twenty hours after leaving Kuwait.
Although
Saturday is a day our family has been anxiously awaiting since late last year,
having to fly nearly 16 hours (6 hours 30 minutes from Kuwait to LHR, then
another 9 hours 25 minutes to MIA), we know we’ll be physically
exhausted. If we’re exhausted you can
only imagine what our son will feel like.
Meanwhile...
As
I said at the beginning, Christopher and I have been spending quite a bit of
quality time together, the past week or so.
Each morning, after dropping mommy off at work, we head over to the
pool, where we spend two hours jumping in/out of the water. Okay, not me, but Christopher that is. Believe it or not, the sun is very intense at
that time of the morning, as too is the air temperature, averaging @115F. I literally have to soak Christopher in 50SPF
sunscreen, just to keep him from turning into a lobster in less than twenty
minutes. I usually hibernate underneath an umbrella. When I do venture out into the water, it’s
for one purpose only and that’s to lob Christopher into the air as if he were a
20kg sack of uncooked potatoes. He loves it! But after three or four bad tosses
(belly flops), you’d think he’d want me to stop, right? Nope.
One good thing about all this is my upper body and arms are getting an
excellent workout.
After
two hours of fun-in-the-sun we head back home.
We then work on last year’s spelling words and read a book or two. I can honestly say I’ve witnessed an amazing
transformation in Christopher’s overall handwriting. What a difference 20-30 minutes of review
work a day can make!
By
the time we’ve finished with this, it’s time for lunch. After lunch, we clean up around the house, and
then we sit and watch the news together.
Then it’s nearly time to jump back into the car and pick up mommy from
work. Yes, we’ve had some busy days.
But
there really isn’t much more to do over here.
Granted I could plop my child in front of the television set for the
entire day, but what good would that do?
Or, we could go shopping in one of the many malls over here. But I really don’t have the energy or
patience to go shopping—that’s not for me. So we frequent the pool.
Perhaps
tomorrow we’ll go bowling after swimming or visit the IMAX theatre. One of the malls around here has a
state-of-the-art Flight Simulator, which for the right price; I might allow
Christopher to try. But seeing that he
can’t handle an Xbox too well, I’m having second thoughts about this idea. The
local video arcade might be a better alternative.
Okay
folks, it’s just about time to put this here blog of mine on hold for the next
three weeks. I do plan to post while on
vacation, time permitting. Just know
that I’m still around and haven’t vanished into thin air.
I’d
like to wish all my follows a safe, and fun filled summer. Do be careful and remember to apply huge
blobs of sunscreen, if you’re going to be outside for any length of time.
Until
then......

Hope you have a safe journey and a great time in Orlando. We're off on holiday ourselves in 2 weeks time, our flight is short but already I'm dreading it.
Have a great holiday. I hope the long flight goes well. Technology works marvellously to keep kids occupied. Even a Nintendo DS is good for kids Chrisopher's age and there are some fun things for that age to do.
Hope you have a fantastic three weeks!
Happy vacationing! We're Colorado bound tomorrow. Much (much) less flying for us, but I've still got a backpackful of airplane crafty stuff that'll probably go untouched 'cause Lily'll be way too lost in iPad Land to care. But should she decide she'd REALLY like to color an oversized wooden novelty cupcake, I'm totally prepared.
Happy, safe traveling!
You need a break, man - you're doing a lot of good! Still envious about that pool arrangement of yours!
I hope you all have a fantastic holiday, see you on the other side.
Have a wonderful vacation, and please send some of that Florida sunshine my way!
